Multicloud is the use of multiple cloud computing platforms or services from separate cloud providers. Rather than relying on a single cloud provider, a multicloud approach uses services and resources from multiple providers simultaneously. This approach helps organizations choose cloud services and capabilities based on preference of performance, cost, service features, lock-in avoidance and geographic availability.
How hybrid cloud is different from multicloud
Hybrid cloud and multicloud are both cloud computing approaches. With a focus on public resources, multicloud involves services from multiple providers. Hybrid cloud focuses on a combination of private and public cloud infrastructure and can become multicloud if more than one provider is used. A hybrid cloud can also be considered multicloud when a private cloud and resources from at least two public cloud service providers are included.
