Wi-Fi, short for Wireless Fidelity, is a wireless networking technology that enables devices to access the internet by exchanging data through radio waves using standardized network protocols.
Wi-Fi technology operates on IEEE 802.11 standards, which define the methods that wireless devices use to communicate with each other. The standards ensure compatibility among devices, regardless of brand, for seamless operation.
Unlike the internet, which connects devices around the world with servers, routers, and other technology, Wi-Fi is a technology that connects devices within a small range. Wi-Fi typically connects devices within a few hundred feet, making it ideal for homes, businesses and public places. Security measures such as passwords and encryption help protect the Wi-Fi network from unauthorized access.
