Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is a policy that allows employees to access company networks, systems and data from their personal technology, not just on hardware provided by their organization. These policies can apply to smartphones, laptops, tablets and more.
Companies that enable users to work from their own devices report reduced hardware costs and increased productivity, particularly among remote teammates. Because BYOD can introduce new risks to company data and networks, successful adoption requires an appropriate security strategy.
BYOD continues to grow in popularity as part of a broader trend toward IT consumerization. However, some organizations rely on a Choose Your Own Device (CYOD) policy as an alternative mobility solution.
